6 years of perseverance: believing in the power of "slowness"

In this era of fast-moving consumer goods, where orders can be placed with the swipe of a finger and delivery is guaranteed the next day, while most companies are chasing “faster production efficiency” and “shorter delivery cycles,” Linshu Yixuan, like a quiet craftsman, stubbornly adheres to the philosophy of “slowness.” Now, six years later, this seemingly “unfashionable” persistence is quietly growing into an amazing thing.
When Yixuan was first founded in 2019, skepticism was a constant. Some pointed to the handicrafts churned out on the assembly line and said, “Handmade things are too time-consuming. We can only produce a few pieces a day. How can we compare with machines?” Others advised the founder, “People these days crave novelty and fast-paced innovation. There’s no need to invest so much effort in craftsmanship.” But Yixuan’s artisans simply took up the willow wood, polishing and weaving it over and over again—they believed that machines could replicate shapes, but not the warmth of fingertips; the assembly line could shorten time, but not the reverence for quality.
Six years is enough time for a seedling to grow into a sapling, and long enough for a determined effort to take root. Today, Yixuan boasts a 6,000-square-meter production facility: There are no roaring robotic arms, but rather dozens of veteran craftsmen gathered together, their fingers twirling rough wicker branches into delicate flower baskets and fruit plates. The finished products neatly stacked in the warehouse bear subtle traces of handcraft—perhaps a slightly different curvature of a wicker branch, or the twisting technique at a joint reveals the craftsman’s unique touch. These “imperfections” become their most distinctive mark.
Even more precious is that more and more people understand the value of this “slow” approach. Yixuan currently has over 100 long-term clients, ranging from established brands deeply rooted in the home furnishing sector to independent designer shops pursuing individuality. One longtime client once said, “Machine-made items all look the same, but Yixuan’s handmade pieces always feel more lifelike when displayed at home, as if they bring back memories of the weaving process.” This recognition has already transcended borders. Yixuan’s handicrafts are now exported to 20 countries, from European home furnishing markets to Japanese grocery stores. The natural texture and warmth of the handmade willow are being embraced and appreciated by people from all cultural backgrounds.
The achievements of these six years reveal a simple truth: while fast-moving consumer goods (FMCGs) chase trends and constantly evolve, the warmth, natural materials, and environmental commitment of handmade products—such as the use of renewable willow and the rejection of chemical dyes—precisely tap into people’s deepest desire for durability. When the novelty of speed wears off, things that require time to mature are more able to withstand the test of time and become more enduring necessities in life.
Looking back at the sixth year, Linshu Yixuan’s “slowness” has never been an excuse for inefficiency, but rather a commitment to quality: each willow log undergoes seven processes, including airing, peeling, and softening, before it can be used, and each finished product undergoes three quality inspections before leaving the factory. This “slowness” isn’t a matter of stubborn conservatism, but rather an innovation in traditional craftsmanship—craftsmen adjust designs based on the living habits of different countries, such as adding a non-slip base for Nordic customers and optimizing the ventilation structure for Southeast Asian customers.
Over the next six years, Linshu Yixuan says it will continue this “slow race” with willow weaving. They plan to invite young designers to join them, reinterpreting traditional weaving techniques with a modern aesthetic. They also want to build a small experience center so more people can touch the willow weaving and experience the joy of weaving. As veteran artisans often say, “Willow weaving takes time, weaving requires patience, and building a good reputation requires time.” In an era obsessed with speed, Linshu Yixuan is using the power of “slowness” to prove that truly valuable things are always worth waiting for.
